LexiLine Journal #39 - 2002 : Lough Gur Grange Lois Ireland Limerick Hole in the Milky Way left of Canis Major

Welcome!

.

I have uploaded

loughgur.tif

to our megalithic files on Ancient Ireland.

The megalith Lough Gur at Grange Lois marks the hole at the Milky Way left of Canis Major, which hole is found in ancient planispheres as the location of the cosmic egg of creation.

Lough (loch) is Gaelic "lake" but also Latvian LUOG "opening, window" and GUR is perhaps Gaelic GUIR meaning "to hatch, lie on eggs" whence Latvian GUL "to lie down" and KUR "to heat". If GUR is GUIR then the name Lough Gur does mark the nest of the cosmic egg.

Very speculatively, Limerick perhaps takes its name from LEIM "meadow" and RICK "a heap" so that the hole in the Milky Way could also be seen as a heap in a meadow.
