Barnmeen in County Down, Ireland, is a gigantic megalith (twice the heighth of a grown man) carved in granite, with a prominent "shoulder", so its sheer size and the durability of the chosen stone indicate it was very important.

Indeed, Barnmeen marks Capricorn and Aquarius. The tip of Capricorn at Deneb Algiedi marked the Winter Solstice in
3117 BC (according to the Heifetz Historical Planisphere), marking the start of the New Year, which is why it had such a prime position in this Neolithic period.

In Gaelic meann means "young kid, newling" which is surely the origin of the term MEEN in BARN-MEEN. Barn may be "born" or Gaelic "bearn" meaning "notch, gap" or Manx barney "cleft, break, space, hiatus, vacancy, discontinuity, aperture, pass" i.e. the gap of or notch for the New Year.

There may also be an ancient connection old Assyrian MUNA-cha "goat-fish" as applied to Capricorn.

Interesting also is that the top of the stone is formed (seemingly) as the head of a whale and that the hard granite has been sculpted so that the entire stone fits the shape of Capricorn at the top.
