LexiLine Journal #32 - 2002 : Annaghmare Armagh County Ireland Aquila

Welcome!

.

To the file Ancient Ireland
I have added

armagh.tif and
armagh.gif

showing the megaliths at the site of Annaghmare in Armagh County, Ireland, a megalithic site which shows the stars of Aquila.

This is one of the most fun sites in Ireland because the various birds represented are quite clear, especially the left megalith. The neighboring owl is formed not just by the megalith itself, but by the stones behind it.

Note again that the relative size of megaliths denotes the magnitude of stars - so that the star Alpha-Aquilae, i.e. Altair, is the star represented by the largest megalith.

The linguistic astronomical connection here is similarly clear since Armagh is found as the Latin Armiges Ales "armor-bearing bird" and is clearly applied to Aquila (see Star Names by Richard Hinckley Allen at p. 56).

The site Annaghmare (ANNAGH- MARE) is the older name and is comparable to Arabic Al UNUK (the neck) plus Persian MURU (the bird), i.e. the neck of the Bird.

This is one of the landmark sites where I can say that the decipherment is correct without a doubt, which is of great assisstance in identifying other sites which may not be so clear.
